This is also the release that will be running on the Sun Fire T1000 that has been so graciously donated by Sun for SunHELP. I’ll be jumpstarting the new OS onto the system this week and shipping it to the colocation center in Austin soon, and starting benchmark testing shortly after it arrives and is installed.

Sun has released version 1.2 of the OpenSPARC T1 design and specifications at the SunSource OpenSPARC web site.

Sun cuts 122 Colorado jobs

According to this Denver Post article, Sun has cut 72 jobs from its Louisville, CO facility and 50 from its Broomfield, CO offices.

The affected workers, most ex-StorageTek employees, will remain on the payroll for the next sixty days. After that, they will receive four weeks of severance pay, in addition to two weeks of pay for every year worked at the company, up to twelve weeks.

Sun to cut staff, leave two campuses

Sun has announced that as part of a new growth plan, approximately 5,000 (out of 37,500 worldwide) positions will be cut over the next six months. In addition, the company will be exiting a lease on its Sunnyvale campus and will put its Newark campus up for sale.
