Sun announces UltraSPARC IV-based machines
Sun has announced its new UltraSPARC IV-based systems. The USIV combines two UltraSPARC III CPUs on one processor die, and can coexist with UltraSPARC III processor modules in a system.
New systems are the 72-CPU E25K, 36-CPU E20K, and the 12-CPU E2900 (all available in April) and the 12-CPU E4900 and 24-CPU E6900 (available in March). Sun’s first AMD Opteron-based server, the V20z, will be available in March at a starting price of $2795. A 64-bit version of Solaris for Opteron processors will be available in the second half of 2004.
