New Hardware: SunBlade 1500
Sun has formally announced the SunBlade 1500, with one 1Ghz UltraSPARC-3i CPU, up to 4G of registered DDR PC2100 ECC memory, two 80G internal ATA100 hard drives, USB 1.1, 2.0, and IEEE1394 (FireWire) ports, and PCI graphics.
So Sun continues to make big PCs with UltraSparcIII’s. The 1M L2 is alittle thin for the price imho, but for the Sparc user who wishes they had all the PC interface goodies (USB, FireWire, etc) I guess this is for you.
But, and I hope I’m not alone in this, what an UGLY ass case! Damn, I’m sure that concept looked good on paper but it’s not sitting on MY desk! Give me back my beloved UltraII. Please, lets leave funky and kool case design to the experts at SGI and Apple.

No, you’re not alone. I also think the new case design is as ugly as sin! The only mitigating factor might be a glowing Sun logo, if the new machines have this “feature”.
Bring back the SB [12]000 cases I say!
