Sun released Solaris(tm) 9 Operating System x86 Platform Edition in
January as part of its x86 strategy. Based on the same source code as
the SPARC(R) platform edition, Solaris 9 for x86 is a complete software
platform with 300 new, built-in features. Among these are Solaris
Volume Manager for managing disk storage systems, Solaris 9 Resource
Manager for application resource control and containment, and security
enhancements that include Solaris Secure Shell for secure remote
