   That I do not know.  But I'm pretty sure no such extensions were 
present on the SCSI SSD that I used on my Sun-3/50 back in 1992.  And 
that wasn't an emulator either.

   Well yes, and I certainly didn't mean to be reductionist.  It's not 
an emulator when it's being used as an ordinary mass storage device. 
When it's configured with a tape device, that *is* an emulation, since 
it's faking the tape semantics, like move forward, move backward, write 
tape mark, etc.

   When it's configured to emulate a DaynaPORT, it's emulating a 
DaynaPORT...not emulating SCSI.

   In short, nothing at all about one of these is faking or acting like 
anything else.  It's a SCSI mass storage device, a linear expanse of 
blocks, with no semantics whatsoever about cylinders, heads, seeking, 
rotating, or anything else.
