There are no "SCSI ports meant for hard disks" on a Sun. It is/was
common, and was supported, to put CD-ROM drives, tape drives, and other
stuff on those SCSI interfaces.
Most Sun stuff expects a CD-ROM drive to be at target address 6,
though this is not a hard requirement. The CD-ROM drive does need to be
set up for 512-byte blocks, though. Later OBP firmware can issues a
command to switch from the default 2048-byte block size to 512 bytes,
but not earlier releases, prior to (I think) OBP 3.0.
