[SunHELP] What exactly does a "Link Failure" mean on startup (5.10 - 1/06 x86)

Maybe you try to put interface  in direct link mode at boot.
Look if you have a /etc/hostname.elxl0 --> then look in /etc/hosts for 
that hostname (if you have an IP assigned is bad).
In case of dhcp everything should be done via  /etc/dhcp.elxl0
