:" From: awouk at nilenet.com (Arthur Wouk)
:" i purchased a 73gig sca hard drive in a sun 611 case some time ago,
:" and tried to attach it to a 'new' ultra-1. it was not recognized, no
:" matter what i tried. i eventually took the drive, attached a 50pin to
:" sca adapter, and put it on a sparc2 which is very reliable, and besides
:" has sformat working on it. it was attached at scsi station 0.
:" this time the machine recognizes the drive, but the drive
:" does not respond to sense signals.
:" so how large a drive (and which ones) will work with sun machines?
:there's no size limit i know of. could the drive have become
:defective? cables loose [okay, not likely]? termination? drive

i tried one final test. i used a 50 to 80 adapter, and attached the drive to
a sparcstation. i was now in the 50 pin world and properly terminated.
same result. the thing won't respond to sensing. spins up. something in
the firmware, i guess. i don't know how to modify the firmware.
this sort of ended all questions except for the one about being defective,
i think. also, sca drives are supposed to self-terminate.
