Can you use sendmail? Or does it absolutely have to be mail? We use sendmail
and "here documents" like this in certain scripts...

/usr/sbin/sendmail -oi -t <<-EOF
From: "$HOSTNAME" <user at domain.blah>
To: "Local People" <locals at domain.blah>
Subject: job for $HOSTNAME successful
Reply-to: "Whoever" <whoever at domain.blah>
Date: `date`
