[SunHELP] apache/mod_ssl problem?

I'm getting the below error message on a Solaris 7 machine running apache
1.3.19(IP based hosting. I didn't set it up this, just living with it
for now), modssl-2.8.3, openssl-0.9.6c, modperl, modphp and Frontpage'02
Extensions (Don't get me started with FP and it's problems w/ suexec)
I went to add our 255th (a possible magic number/limit?) hosting customer
and when I did I got the below error. I commented out that virtualhost and
it started working again. I decided to uncomment it, and comment out
another working site and the new site works. Puzzled I did 'grep
^\<VirtualHost> /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf | wc -l' and I came up
with 254 sites before I added that new site.
I thought that maybe it was a file descriptors problem and increased it to
4096. Didn't work. I started the thing without SSL, and it worked. WTF? Is
there some limitation with mod_ssl that is preventing me from using it
with more than 254 VirtualHosts?
I know this should probably be posted in a mod-ssl group but figured
since I'm subscribed to this group I'd throw it out to you guys. Thanks.
