Nah, SCSI is doing fine. There have been many transports for SCSI,
beyond parallel:
- SAS
- USB
- FireWire
- FibreChannel
- SSA (IBM)
It needn't be a parallel interface on a 50-pin IDC connector to be
"SCSI".
And make no mistake, it needed to make the transition to serial,
regardless of the specific transport mechanism. There were skew
problems in parallel SCSI in U320; scaling it past that and avoiding
skew while still making cables simple and affordable just wasn't practical.
