[rescue] Computer Collection Dissolution

Hello dear listmembers,

as Jochen and I had been in touch during his active days in the hobby (often both sleeping, or rather coding, tinkering and discussing into the wee hours, at the venue during various VCFes in Munich), I've already mailed him privately yesterday and expressed my willingness to assist with the move and, if necessary, my ability to take care of some of the systems. However Ian's post below also stirred some memories from a couple years ago, when an endeavour to get some rather well stuffed E6000 system shipped or fetched from a listmember on the Isle of Man over to me fell through due to the onset of the C-19 pandemic and wasn't followed up on yet. I have no idea whether that system is still available or even exists after all (though a web page about it definitely does, and even still has a "coming soon" tag on some topic - Mike?!) and Ian's suggestion of ferrying stuff *to* the UK for various parties in the course of this effort is tempting me to ask whether the reverse might also be an option, given that there should likely be some unused transport capacity available on the way to Germany. The current owner back then had offered hauling the box (which btw only consists of the module cage set on casters, not the whole cabinet!) to mainland UK for a handover in the greater Liverpool area. Depending on timing etc, the system could either be left with Jochen in Kaiserslautern (as I currently intend to come help him only when he finally cleans out/moves) or could change hands at any handy autobahn exit. Fuel compensation is offered. Anyone passing though there, please?

TIA, yours sincerely,

Arno Kletzander

Hi Jochen

Sorry to hear about the situation. I've had a few occasions when I've had to move systems on in a hurry, once when moving country with work. Not easy.

I'm mainly interested in the Sun systems.

I would be happy to come over to collect systems and could bring a helper if there are other people who are willing to accept systems in the UK or on the way to the UK and I can drop them off.

PM me if of interest.

Ian
