Hi Bram

These sorts of things happen with the nvram/idprom or memory starts to go. Sun's can sometimes get in quite an unstable state.

After many decades working with Suns I would say the most common error I get is memory. This can give the most bizarre failures on boards, and this is usually the first thing I check. Usually I will remove all but the minimum RAM and boot. If all is well, continue until you find the defective RAM.

Secondly, rather than mess around endlessly with prom/NVRAM settings, I replace the battery in the NVRAM chip, and start afresh in the usual way. There are loads of videos/online guides on doing this.

Power supplies are usually OK, or have been in my experience. I've had a few fail but not many, and usually when they fail it's obvious (smoke, burning smell, etc).

With two machines you can swap over parts etc to get a working system hopefully.

Good luck & report back !

Ian
