Have you tried it with any of the dual-colour mice, the ones whose
official mouse pad consists of shiny metal with red horizontal and blue
vertical lines?  The kind with two holes on the bottom of the mouse,
one with a red LED visible and the other with nothing visible (I think
the other LED operates outside the visible range)?  Examples of such
mice are 370-1091-01 and 370-1170-01.

I don't have any good way to print out your file for a test at present,
but it seems doubtful to me that any monochrome pattern could work well
with those mice.

Of course, depending on what vintage of mouse the original poster winds
up with, this may or may not matter.
