MS had TWO major upgrades that the majority of XP users never even considered
- Win Vista and Win 7, at least Win 7 was a solid upgrade over Win XP.

The real problem is that those decade-old desktops running XP are still 'good
enough' and meet customer needs. To upgrade their OS would, for many, require
a forklift hardware upgrade. That cost was too high for the marginal
improvement it buys those users...
