perhaps /bin/sh on sgi is ksh88 compiled with the POSIX flag, as in
hpux 10 and up.  iirc this changes about 6 ksh things, most in minor
ways; the most serious being $0 in posix functions, but there's also a
non-posix way to define functions with the ksh behavior.


btw i've found one thing real ksh can do that bash et al can't:

typeset -i13 ANSWER=$((6*9))
print "The answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, is -- ${ANSWER#13#}."

okay, i haven't found a -real- use for it...
