FWIW, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SunOS shows SunOS 3.2 and 3.5 as providing initial support for the first Sun-4 Sparc systems in 1986 and 1988 respectively.

I've already contacted Sheldon (and others) directly but a client is looking for equipment specifically to run SunOS 3. It could be 680xx or early Sparc - for instance the Sun 4/110 that I used 20 years back originally ran SunOS 3.2 or 3.5 (heck if I remember which).

The change in MMU needed for SunOS 4 specifically takes us out of the area in which they need to demonstrate uh... something. So, specifically 68030 based systems are too new too.

And for those who mentioned it, running 4.x BSD - from which SunOS 3 is derived - on some other equipment is also part of this project - about which I can't really say much else at this time. :-/
