Not exactely. dd(1) adds a few sectors from the lead out to the image.
It stops when the medium becomes unreadable, not when the file system on
the medium ends. I use cdrdao(1) to rip and burn CD images. cdrdao(1)
reads the TOC and writs it in an extra file with meta data. Data
and audio tracs are written in seperate files. (In case of a data CD
there is only one track and the resulting data file is an (ISO) image.)
Guided by the meta data in the TOC file cdrdao(1) is able to create
exact copies of CDs. (Modulo non-CDs that are "copy protected".)
