" From: Patrick Finnegan <pat at computer-refuge.org>
" Actually, differences in speed are the problem. If everyone drove 100mph
" down the highway, and no one drove slower or faster than that (assuming
" the highway was designed for that), it'd be just as safe as everyone
" driving 55mph.
" People only cause accidents when the delta-V between them is non-zero.
years ago i read a study that showed highway traffic speeds followed a
normal distribution, and the safest speed was on the high side of the
curve - delta-v was small and your encounters were preponderantly with
vehicles in front of you where you were naturally watching them; few
were 'sneaking up' behind you.
