dd has worked *numerous* times for me on regular
CDROMs, too many to count. It just didn't work for me
the day i tried it with an IRIX 5.3 CD. Obviously,
with this many people chiming in that it worked for
them, i must have fsck'd something up myself that day.
I'll give it a shot again and see if i get the same
results or success.
