First, read the DSL HOWTO at the LDP. :) It's got lots of good info,
and despite being hosted at the Linux Documentation Project, it's mostly
*nix centric, and not so Linux centric. Oh yeah, and I helped re-write
some portions of it, so I have read it.

Unfortunately, there aren't any DSL techs working for the RBOCs yet,
they just send telephone techs who can plug in the box, and if it has
blinky lights, they assume it works. That said, I've had my DSL for
more than a year now in the Pac Northwest, and I didn't have any trouble
getting it running. The only problem that I have with it is that when I
turn on my desk lamp that sits next to my 675, the 675 locks up. It's
easy to fix by just un-plugging it and plugging it back in. I don't
usually even lose my IRC connections. :)
