For what it's worth, my notes show at least two distinctly different
pinouts for 8P8C serial ports:

8P8C	Sun/Cisco	Magma

1	RTS		?
2	DTR		GND
3	TXD		?
4	GND		?
5	GND		?
6	RXD		RXD
7	DSR		TXD
8	CTS		?

If the Sun/Cisco column heading is accurate, though, a Cisco cable
_should_ Just Work.
