Trailing edge is pricey...

I've been known to actually upgrade the MB in systems to get cheaper  
RAM upgrades...

A $60-70 MB that uses existing CPU and supports 2x 2 Gig DDR2 sticks  
can catapult a system from 1 Gig to 4 for the same (or less) money.
