Lionel suggested the SF Sidewalk Astronomers, founded by the democratic
telecope-maker James Dobson.

   Truth be told, I would prefer to get a kit for a Dobsonian if I could
find a cheap one, and someone to show me how to do it. But the
investment (plywood, glass, rubbing compound, etc., etc.) looks a little
larger, and I am often ham-fisted on my first try at something, so maybe
the baby step of a Galileoscope would be a good idea. :7)

   Say, I wonder if there's an astronomy group at Brown University who
could help... Hmm, must investigate!
