Actually, it's cheaper to forget about LCD's entirely and use OLED
(organic LED) displays. 

OLEDs are "active", last about 3-5,000 hours and are made with a device
similar to an ink jet printer. 

In a few years, you will see "disposable" OLED TV screens. In 10 years you
will see movie theaters with OLED screens. Once a year they will need to be
replaced which will cost far less than a year's worth of projection bulbs.
