there's no motivation that can get people to work harder than enjoying
what they're doing.
it's well known that after the war a lot of eastern-european nazi
refugee scientists vacuumed up into the manhattan project were
suddenly classed as security risks and booted.
i've heard but can't substantiate that a number could only find high
school teaching jobs, but that half the top physicists in america a
generation later came out of their classrooms.
